When you speak with Tara Weingarten, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the popular American automotive review site VroomGirls.com, it’s immediately apparent that she knows more about cars than you do. Besides her grace and her great sense of humor, what struck me about Tara is that she’s a person who understands more from bumper-to-bumper than I ever will. Not that she projects that knowledge in any way that is condescending, but as a blog & web content writer, it was hard not to feel intimidated when chatting with a journalist with a resume like Tara’s!
Besides VroomGirls.com, Tara is best known as the former writer of the Road Test column for Newsweek magazine, for which she wrote for 19 years. She has also contributed “automotive, travel, food, wine and feature stories to numerous publications, including The New York Times, Time, Fortune Small Business, Robb Report, Los Angeles Times, Esquire, Worth and The Wine Spectator,” as noted on the VroomGirls About Us page.
Once we sat down to have our chat on Google Hangouts, I forgot about my mechanical ignorance and had a funny and insightful discussion. Tara, like many journalists I’ve known, is a fountain of knowledge. She’s also a veteran of the jarring “old media vs. new media” transition that has changed our world incredibly.
Tara’s goal of putting together an online magazine for car tips, safety tips, travel, road trip articles and car reviews has definitely been realized in this unique and fantastic VroomGirls.com site.
We spoke about a wide variety of topics: her life & experiences; growing up and learning to drive at a young age in the Los Angeles area; women in stock car racing; Tina Fey; and the kind of rental car she books if she needs one…
VroomGirls.com is definitely an awesome site to visit regularly if you’re interested in buying a car, or if you’re just an enthusiast who wants information on new models and great tips on a variety of related topics. It’s well-organized and designed, and it’s filled with tons of useful articles. It’s also very easy for anyone of any knowledge level to get into.
