Liam says that he loves photography because there is nothing better than being in a special moment that you never want to end. “Photography helps us cling onto and remember that moment with more clarity.”
Banff National Park, Canada: I’ve been on plenty of road trips but some stand out more than the others. Recently in Canada, I was lucky enough to drive through Banff National Park, right after the first heavy snowfall of the year. I knew I would have to be extremely lucky to see a grizzly bear – something that I’ve wanted to see my whole life. In the blink of an eye we saw a shadow cross the road as we were driving along the 1A old highway – where plenty of wildlife can be seen. We drove further up and stopped. As there was no traffic, we managed to see a silhouette amongst the trees. I had my doubts at first but as the animal turned and made its way around a large bush, I realised it was a grizzly. Not only was it a grizzly, but a famous grizzly bear in Alberta known as The Boss – he gained this name as he is the dominant male grizzly in the region.
The West Coast of America: Driving through America’s West Coast was a great experience and seeing places like Yosemite National Park, the Golden Gate Bridge and the scenery in Oregon was also very memorable. I was lucky enough to see heavy snowfall in New York to finish the trip in North America aswell.
Great Ocean Road, Australia: Back home though in Australia, I love a good road trip out to the Great Ocean Road as there is always plenty to see.
Western Australia: I love driving down south to the Margaret River. I’m looking forward to going further along the coast next time I am back home in Perth as I would love to see the Kangaroos on the beach at Lucky Bay.
For those early birds who beat the sunrise you sometimes need a torch to get to the final destination by foot.
LIAM’S TOP TIP FOR PEOPLE RENTING A CAR
Always take the upgrade option. Every time I’ve rented and considered paying that little bit extra, I’ve done so and I’ve never regretted it. The extra room, comfort and in most cases safety is invaluable when you’re spending so much time on the road.
THE PHOTO LIAM IS MOST PROUD OF…
The photos I’m proudest of would have to be the shots I managed to get of The Boss, it was a special moment that I’ll never forget.
